I found over the years and as I have got older that my skin dries out very quickly. In winter I am like a walking piece of sand paper, dry, flaky and always itching. This has extended into my swimming world. Since having children, for some reason or another, maybe I am a freak of nature, I don't grow a lot hair on my body (if someone know why this is I would love to know!) Since there is no hair apparently I am more susceptible to my skin drying out because the hair is not there to retain my natural oil on the skin so it dries out more (does that make sense?)
Anyway to cut a long story short here are my 3 top tips for dry skin prevention from swimming pool rash:
- Pre-swimming lotion: So what is a pre-swimming lotion I here you say, great question. This was a question I asked some months ago. In order to answer that question properly you will need to go to summersaltbodycare.com.au
- Shower: Use a soap free body wash without any sodium lauryl sulphate (SLS). SLS and sodium laureth sulphate (SLES) are surfactants (“surface – active agent”: a substance, like a detergent, which enables a liquid to foam), which are used in many cosmetic products for its cleansing and emulsifying properties.
It is often alleged in the media, and by companies who don't use SLS, that SLS can cause various skin irritations, and may even cause cancer (Wikipedia) In this case I recommend that you form your own opinion. - Moisturise, moisturise, moisturise... everybody is different and I don't have any loyalty to any one mosituriser, probably because I haven't really found one that solves my problem but... I have found that after using a pre-swimming lotion I don't have to moisturise as much.
PS If any one finds a really nourishing moisturiser that I only have to apply once in the day I woud love to hear about it!... THANKS
PPS I hope you have enjoyed reading my tips and if anyone esle has some other tips I would love to hear of them.
